If you’re new to Arizona or if you been here all your life, one of the most common questions our technicians are asked: “What kind of pests are common here in Arizona?”
We are fortunate to enjoy a wonderful climate, though some would argue that June, July, August and even September can be very warm. Yes, that is true, with an average range of temperature of 67 degrees in December to 108 degrees in July we end up with about six months of perfect weather and temperature. Guess who else likes our environment? Yep that’s right a wide range of pests. Some of the more common are:
Termites, Scorpions, Ants, Cockroaches, Spiders, Tarantulas, Bees, Wasps, Ticks and Bedbugs. Oh, there are many more and some you would not even think about like: Rats, Mice, Woodpeckers, Pigeons, Snakes and wild life in some areas.
Most pests should be dealt with professionally, hire a licensed pest management firm. Some of these pests are poisonous, termites require specialized equipment. Bird management requires specialized techniques such as bird netting, spike application or trapping.
You can check a company’s licensing at opm.azda.gov or Pest Management Division Az.gov
Using a licensed company gives you some insight to the nature of the business. You know the firm took the time to obtain and pay for proper licensing, they have insurance (required for licensing) and they passed the required testing. Length of time in business is another check, if you are seeking a multi-year termite warranty – then best to make sure the company has been in business for a number of years. After all you want to make sure they will be there in the event of a warranty issue.
