Cockroach aka Waterbugs or Cucarochas
Cockroaches are here to stay, it is believed they survived the Ice Age; our Arizona heat is a piece of cake to them, no issues! Based on fossil evidence, cockroaches are known to have been present on Earth for nearly 350 million years!
In Arizona we have a couple of well-established cockroaches. American and German roaches are among the most common, we also host Brown Banded and Turkestan roaches.
Cockroaches pose several health threats. They produce odorous secretions for various points of their bodies; these secretions can affect the flavor of foods and leave a distinct order in a home or apartment. Additionally disease producing organisms such as bacteria have been found on cockroach bodies. Viruses have been associated with German and American roaches. Allergies are caused by roaches both through inhalation and ingested allergens. This is recognized as a major health issue. Food poisoning, nausea, abdominal cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses are all associated with contamination by cockroaches.
German Roaches can produce from 4 to 8 egg capsules in their lifetime. Each capsule contains 30 to 48 eggs. It usually take 20 to 30 days from the time of initial formation of the first egg capsule until it hatches; time can be shorter in warm weather. There are 6 to 7 nymph states called instars. Roaches can live up to a year. If you do the math using 100 percent mortality the numbers a German cockroach infestation can reach in just one year unchecked are overwhelming.
Seek Professional Help:
Cockroach infestations are best handled by a professional. There have been many cases where private tenants or homeowners have literally blown up their residence with the use of vapor bombs. This is serious work and it should be left to the professional.
Inspections, sanitation and cleaning serve well as a starting point, and then maintain it! For an inspection and control plan, please contact our office.
